New York Fashion Week: Spring/Summer 2015 Trends

New York kicked off Fashion Month with a round of spectacular collections. Oscar de la Renta packed his spring/summer 2015 collection with odes to nature and exquisite details, Diesel Black Gold oozed sex appeal with a the hard edge that it is known for and Narciso Rodriguez went for strong and sexy with a softness that has been running through most collections. These are some of the trends come Spring/Summer 2015.

Military Influences. A militaristic air suffused collections from Victoria Beckham, Rodarte, Marc Jacobs and Ralph Lauren as they borrowed a lot from the military with colours, pockets and uniform looks.

Matching Prints. The ever popular cropped top this time round came paired with matching print skirts and shorts from designers like Donna Karan, Badgley Mischka and Nanette Lepore.

Gingham. Creations in gingham and checks turned up in unexpected ways at Altuzarra, Marc Jacobs, Oscar de la Renta and Houghton.

Summer Sweater. The sweater is another trend that has overlapped several seasons and for spring/summer 2015 a number of variations have emerged.

Bandeau Top. The somewhat revealing bandeau top was spotted all over the catwalk from the likes of Badgley Mischka, Donna Karan and Herve Leger.

Pockets. Whether large like at Carolina Herrera and Marc Jacobs, pockets abounded on the catwalk from Jenny Packham, Rodarter, Luis Antonio and Ralph Lauren.

Lace skirts + Button-up Shirts. Lace skirts paired with sporty, button-up shirts had a moment on the runways of Hugo Boss, Houghton and Michael Kors.

Wide Sleeves. Sleeves got more structured and wide on the runways of New York, a departure from the ever popular round shoulder.

Fancy Blues. Denim never goes out of style and for spring/summer 2015 the look is cropped and  roomy.

Peplum Gowns. New York catwalks had a sprinkling of peplum looks but the outstanding looks were the peplum gowns from Badgley Mischka, Oscar de la Renta and Monique Lhuillier.
