The 2014 Emmy Awards.

The Emmy Awards is the Oscars of the Television world – a night when the small screen’s stars take focus from their big screen counterparts. This year’s best dressed eschewed the safety of a black gown for vibrant reds, pinks and corals. These are the outstanding trends from the Emmys 2014 red carpet.

Red Hues. Red was the colour of the night as January Jones led the pack in scarlett Prabal Gurung, Julia Louise-Dreyfus in crimson Carolina Herrera and Christina Hendricks in ruby red Marchesa.

White Gowns. At the other end of the colour spectrum, white gowns enjoyed a red carpet renaissance courtesy of Michelle Monaghan, Lucy Liu, Sofia Vergara and Camila Alves.

Metallic. With Gwen Stefani resplendent in a swarovski encrusted silver gown, Hayden Panettiere, Katherine Heigl and Amy Poehler joined her in the mine craft with their metallic ensembles.
